The newly appointed representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund in Armenia presented his credentials to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade

On September 2, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan received Ghassan Khalil, the newly appointed Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund on the occasion of handing over of his letter of credence.

Congratulating him on taking over the position of the UNICEF Representative, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade expressed hope that the latter’s experience and knowledge would best contribute to the continued strengthening and development of the effective cooperation established between Armenia and the UNICEF in recent years.

Robert Abisoghomonyan stressed that education is one of the priorities of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, highlighting in this context the process of ongoing ambitious reforms and the sectoral priorities. The role of UNICEF in advancing the agenda for protecting children’s rights and ensuring their well-being was also underscored.

Armenia’s international initiatives in the area of human rights, including child protection and education were touched upon. Particular reference was made to the resolution on "Education for Peace" unanimously adopted in the UN General Assembly.
