Participation of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia in the General Debate of the 82nd Session of ESCAP

On April 20, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan participated and delivered remarks at the General Debate of the 82nd session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), held in Bangkok.

In his remarks, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan emphasized regional cooperation as a fundamental pillar for ensuring sustainable development. The necessity of strengthening peace, resilience and interconnectivity was highlighted, particularly for nations facing structural constraints. Robert Abisoghomonyan further underscored the imperative to reduce the vulnerability of landlocked countries to external shocks and ensure unimpeded access to markets. 

The Deputy Foreign Minister drew the attention of the participants to the principled approaches and vision of the Presidency of Armenia for hosting the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) later this year. In this vein, it was emphasized that safeguarding biodiversity is essential for ensuring food security, public health and economic resilience.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia touched upon the developments in the South Caucasus over the past year, highlighting that the Agreements reached in Washington on August 8, 2025, have served as a catalyst for advancing economic cooperation and sustainable development both in the region and beyond. Touching upon the implementation of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) Project, the Deputy Foreign Minister stressed the importance of establishing effective economic ties, restoring communications and reopening transport routes with neighbouring countries to bolster regional resilience. 

Reflecting on the rapid global transformation driven by technological innovation, socioeconomic and climate imperatives, the Deputy Foreign Minister presented the process of comprehensive reforms implemented by Armenia aimed at strengthening energy security, enhancing energy efficiency and fostering energy saving. In this context, the development of nuclear energy, solar power and electricity storage was prioritized.  

In conclusion, the Deputy Foreign Minister reiterated the steadfast commitment of Armenia to advancing multilateral cooperation with international organizations and development partners to achieve tangible results in sustainable development.
