The inaugural Armenia–European Union Summit will take place on 4 and 5 May 2026
26 March, 2026On 4 and 5 May 2026, the inaugural Armenia-European Union Summit will be held in Yerevan. The Republic of Armenia will be represented by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and the European Union will be represented by President of the European Council, António Costa, together with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
Ahead of the Summit, President Costa and President Von der Leyen will also participate in the 8th Summit of the European Political Community, to be held in Yerevan on 4 May 2026.
The Armenia–European Union Summit will focus on strengthening bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on the fields of economy, energy, transport, digitalization, and people-to-people contacts. The leaders will also discuss progress towards ensuring peace, security, connectivity, and prosperity in the South Caucasus, as well as ongoing global challenges.
The Armenia–European Union Summit reflects the unprecedented dynamics of the bilateral partnership in recent years. Relations between Armenia and the European Union are based on the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which entered into force in 2021, as well as on the “Armenia-EU Partnership Strategic Agenda”, adopted at the meeting of the Armenia-EU Partnership Council, held in December 2025, with the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos. The European Union is a key partner for Armenia in the implementation of its reform agenda, as well as in the areas of trade and investment.
Background
Within the CEPA framework, Armenia continues to implement a comprehensive reform agenda based on democracy, transparency, and the rule of law, particularly in areas such as combating corruption, reforming the judicial system, and increasing accountability to citizens, as well as ensuring equal economic, employment, and social opportunities for all.
In September 2024, the visa liberalisation dialogue between Armenia and the EU was launched, aimed at establishing a visa-free travel regime with the EU for Armenian citizens.
On July 14, 2025, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan met with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to reaffirm and advance the developing Armenia–EU partnership. Overall, 2025 was marked by a high dynamic of political dialogue, high-level reciprocal visits, and deepening of the Armenia–EU partnership.
In August 2025, the EU welcomed the initialing of the Peace Agreement and the signing of the Declaration. The EU stands ready to support, through investments, the development of inclusive regional connectivity and the full opening of communications in the region, in favor of lasting peace and stability.
