Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Kenya

On February 23 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan and Josphat Maikara, the Director General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.

The signing ceremony was followed by the inaugural round of political consultations, co-chaired by Levon Petrosyan, Head of the Middle East and Africa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, and Director General Josphat Maikara.

Within the frames of consultations, the parties discussed prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, healthcare, high technologies, agriculture, and a number of other areas of mutual interest. Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening political dialogue and further expanding of the bilateral legal and contractual framework. The interlocutors also exchanged views on cooperation and mutual support within international platforms.

The Kenyan side was presented with the Armenian side’s priorities in the lead-up to the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), to be held in Yerevan in 2026.

During the meeting, the latest developments in the South Caucasus and East Africa, as well as other issues on the international agenda of mutual interest, were also touched upon.
