Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Zimbabwe
20 February, 2026On February 20, the first round of political consultations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Zimbabwe was held in Yerevan, co-chaired by Robert Abisoghomonyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, and Albert Chimbindi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
The consultations were preceded by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
During the consultations, the parties undertook a comprehensive review of the prospects for expanding the bilateral agenda, including the advancement of cooperation in the fields of agriculture, education, information technology, capacity building, as well as trade and economic relations.
The interlocutors underscored the importance of broadening the scope of engagement and further deepening the existing cooperation within the framework of multilateral platforms and international organizations.
In this context, Deputy Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan presented the priorities of the Republic of Armenia in hosting the Seventeenth Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, scheduled to be held in Yerevan in 2026. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring inclusive and multi-stakeholder participation throughout the Conference, with a view to fostering substantive, focused, and result-oriented deliberations on biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability. The Deputy Foreign Minister further highlighted the significance of the Leaders’ Summit to be convened within the framework of COP17.
The interlocutors also exchanged views on a broad range of issues of mutual interest on the regional and international agenda, including the process of institutionalizing peace in the South Caucasus, as well as recent developments in Sub-Saharan Africa.
