Meeting of the Foreign Minister of Armenia with the President of the Venice Commission

On January 28, in Strasbourg, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Marta Cartabia, President of the Venice Commission.

Minister Mirzoyan congratulated Marta Cartabia on her appointment as President of the Venice Commission.

The interlocutors discussed issues of cooperation with the Venice Commission. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the active cooperation developed in the current complex conditions, aimed at ensuring the rule of law, protecting human rights, and, more broadly, advancing legal reforms.

Minister Mirzoyan emphasized that, within the framework of the ambitious democratic reform agenda, Armenia values the Commission’s contribution in the process of developing various legal initiatives, which is reflected in its advisory opinions (Amicus curiae).

The challenges in protection of human rights in the context of the development of digital platforms and the importance of developing and implementing effective mechanisms to address them were touched upon.

Views were exchanged on other issues of mutual interest.
