Discussion with the participation of Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan at the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs

On January 29, in Brussels, a discussion with the participation of Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan was held at the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Ararat Mirzoyan delivered remarks, followed by a question-and-answer session with Members of the European Parliament. The discussion was led by Committee Chair David McAllister and attended by members of the majority of political groups, including the Head of the Delegation for relations with the South Caucasus countries, the Co-Chair of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, and the Rapporteur on Armenia.

Minister Mirzoyan presented the significant changes that have taken place since the previous meeting in this format, particularly the establishment of peace and the subsequent developments between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

A detailed discussion was held regarding the implementation of the agreements reached on the unblocking of regional communications, as well as the existing achievements in this direction. The importance of ensuring an inclusive network of transport and economic connectivity chain was emphasized.

Touching upon Armenia’s ambitious democratic reform agenda, Ararat Mirzoyan noted: “The choice is between sovereign democracy or a path to subservient autocracy, and we have already chosen our way.”

Ararat Mirzoyan and the Members of the European Parliament exchanged views on the prospects for deepening Armenia-EU relations, emphasizing the strong mutual commitment to implement the partnership strategic agenda.

Minister Mirzoyan also responded to questions on international and regional developments, hybrid threats, and efforts aimed at effectively countering them. The MPs highly appreciated the Republic of Armenia’s commitment and role in advancing the peace agenda as well as in promoting democratic reforms.

Foreign Minister of Armenia expressed gratitude for the consistent support expressed by the European Parliament on key issues for Armenia.
