Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan participated in the meeting of the Working Group under the Council on Women’s Issues

On January 14, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan participated in and delivered opening remarks at the meeting of the Working Group under the Council on Women’s Issues organized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Tatevik Stepanyan also delivered welcoming remarks at the meeting.

The Deputy Minister presented Armenia’s commitment to promoting gender equality and protecting women’s rights, highlighting the significant achievements in this area. The recent adoption by the Government of the Republic of Armenia of the Third National Action Plan on “Women, Peace and Security,” as well as the establishment of a National Mechanism aimed at strengthening international human rights reporting.

In the context of efforts to promote gender equality, the Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized Armenia’s sustained, active and constructive cooperation with international human rights mechanisms and bodies, both within the framework of the United Nations and regional organizations. In this regard, upcoming processes were outlined, stressing the importance of the planned visits of two international monitoring bodies to Armenia in the first half of 2026, from the perspective of improving gender equality policies and ensuring compliance with international standards.

In his remarks, the Deputy Foreign Minister also touched upon the ongoing preparations for the UN Convention on Biological Diversity COP17 to be held in Yerevan in 2026, stressing the importance of promoting women’s participation and leadership within that framework. The importance of ensuring the full involvement of women and girls in the fields of environmental protection, education, technology, as well as at all levels of public and political life was emphasized, as a component of Armenia's sustainable and inclusive development.
