Meeting of Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan with UN Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide Chaloka Beyani
24 September, 2025On September 24, in New York, in the margins of the 80th Session of UNGA, Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan had a meeting with Chaloka Beyani, the UN Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide. The meeting was also attended by Mô Bleeker, the UN Special Adviser on the Responsibility to Protect.
The interlocutors commended cooperation established between Armenia and the UN Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibiity to Protect.
The Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized that the prevention agenda remains among key priorities of Armenia, affirming the country’s willingness to maintain active engagement in strengthening early warning and action mechanisms, as well as in advancing international human rights and humanitarian law. In this regard, the resolution on “Prevention of Genocide”, tabled by Armenia, was highlighted as an important step to reinforcing the international agenda on the prevention of genocide and mass atrocities.
The sides also touched upon the prospects for cooperation between Armenia and the Office of Special Adviser in the framework of the resolution on the “Tenth anniversary of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of This Crime,” tabled by Armenia and adopted by consensus at the 79th plenary session of the UN General Assembly.
