Visit of Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan to Iran
13 August, 2025On August 12-13, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan paid a visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, where he had meetings with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Foreign Policy Advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader and Head of Iran Strategic Council on Foreign Relations Kamal Kharrazi and Foreign Policy Advisor Ali-Akbar Velayati, as well as with Political Advisor to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mehdi Sanaei.
During the meetings Vahan Kostanyan emphasised that Armenia highly values Iran’s consistent and public stance on the imperative of unconditional respect for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of the borders of the Republic of Armenia, reaffirming that Armenia, in turn, takes into account Iran’s vital interests.
The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia commended Iran’s congratulations and support regarding the initialing of the “Agreement on Peace and the Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan”, as well as the recent progress aimed at the normalization of relations between the two countries and the establishment of peace in the region.
Referring to the joint declaration signed on August 8 in Washington by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States, Vahan Kostanyan emphasized that the process of unblocking regional economic infrastructures will take place within the framework of full respect for the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction, and reciprocity of the countries, in accordance with the letter and spirit of the aforementioned declaration. In a constructive atmosphere, views were exchanged regarding the positions of Armenia and Iran on the process, and an agreement was reached to maintain continuous dialogue.
During the meetings of the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia, upcoming high-level contacts were also discussed.
