Regional meeting of National Authorities of Eastern European States under the OPCW
12 June, 2025On June 11–12, the 24th regional meeting of National Authorities of State Parties in Eastern Europe under the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) took place in Yerevan. It serves as a platform to strengthen cooperation among National Authorities, facilitate the exchange of best practices, and enhance the capacities for the effective and sustained implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
Opening remarks were delivered by Arman Hovhannisyan, the Head of the International Security Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Beatrix Lahoupe, the Head of the Implementation Support Branch within the International Cooperation and Assistance Division of the OPCW Technical Secretariat. Arman Hovhannisyan emphasized the importance of ensuring the continuity of efforts aimed at achieving the objectives of the Convention and reiterated Armenia's resolute commitment to entirely exclude the possibility of the use of chemical weapons or related hazardous materials.
During the two-day meeting, representatives of the OPCW Technical Secretariat delivered presentations on the implementation of obligations under the Convention and on capacity-building initiatives. National statements were delivered by the representatives of Armenia, Croatia, Czechia, Serbia, Slovenia, Hungary and Romania.
The regional meeting was followed by an awareness-raising event held on June 13, specifically organized for representatives of stakeholder agencies of Armenia that constitute Armenia's National Authority.
