Meeting of the Foreign Minister of Armenia with the Director-General of UNESCO

On June 9, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay.

The interlocutors discussed Armenia’s active engagement in UNESCO, issues related to the protection of cultural heritage in crisis situations, and the implementation of various projects.

Minister Mirzoyan noted that during its current membership in the UNESCO Executive Board, despite various developments and challenges, Armenia continues to actively participate in initiatives in line with the Organization’s mandate.

Views were exchanged on activities within various UNESCO bodies.

The programs aimed at supporting forcibly displaced Armenians from NK were touched upon.

The directions for Armenia–UNESCO cooperation in the context of the 17th session of the COP17 to be held in Armenia in the fall of 2026 were discussed, taking into account UNESCO’s significant experience and mechanisms in the this field.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Mirzoyan handed over to Audrey Azoulay the Order of Friendship, awarded by the decree of the President of Armenia, in recognition of her significant contribution to strengthening and developing cooperation between Armenia and UNESCO and to the protection of humanitarian values.
