The meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia with the Nordic-Baltic countries and the joint statement.

03 June, 2025

On June 3, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received the Political Directors and representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Nordic-Baltic countries. The meeting took place within the framework of their regional visit.

At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Mirzoyan stated: "This visit is taking place at a time when we are significantly deepening our relations with the Nordic-Baltic countries. In this context, I recall the first meeting in this format—my meeting with the Foreign Ministers of your countries during the 2024 OSCE Ministerial Conference, as well as the visits of parliamentary speakers of your countries to Yerevan earlier this year. This is a very good and promising start. We attach special importance to relations with the Nordic-Baltic countries, and there is a simple reason for that: we share the same values, as well as similar understanding of the challenges and the prospects ahead of us."

Minister Mirzoyan went on to present the steps being taken for the implementation of the foreign policy priorities of the Republic of Armenia, as well as the vision for developing cooperation with international partners along this path. The Minister provided a detailed overview of the efforts aimed at normalizing and developing relations with the countries in the immediate neighbors of Armenia, as well as concrete initiatives focused on further deepening the comprehensive partnership with the European Union.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia addressed the peace agenda and, in the context of establishing peace in the South Caucasus, emphasized the importance of signing the Peace Treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Views were exchanged on regional developments and the challenges often encountered on the path to strengthening democracy, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation in overcoming them.

Minister Mirzoyan answered the questions of the guests.

A joint press release was issued following the meeting, which is presented below:

On 3 June, during a regional visit to the South Caucasus, the Nordic-Baltic Political Directors and representatives held meetings with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Armenia.

The Nordic-Baltic countries reiterated their joint commitment to strengthening relations and expanding political dialogue and economic cooperation with Armenia. The Nordic-Baltic countries also expressed their full support for Armenia’s ambition to further deepen partnership with the European Union and its European partners. While tangible results have already been achieved in this path, the importance of meeting the expectations of the citizens with further concrete deliverables such as in Visa Liberalization Dialogue, was underscored.

Armenia shares commitments to democracy, human rights and rule of law. The Nordic-Baltic countries recognize and support Armenia’s significant progress in these areas and will continue to support the reform efforts which are commendable despite continuous challenges.

The Nordic-Baltic countries support efforts to achieve regional peace and stability as well as cooperation and development, and welcome the agreement on the text of the Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan and hope the parties will sign it in the near future. The importance of the “Crossroads of Peace” initiative for the regional stability, connectivity and prosperity has been emphasised.

During the visit, the parties agreed to continue exchanges of views and positions on regional, multilateral, and international issues.
