Meeting of Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

On April 30, in Geneva, within the framework of Armenia’s National Report for the Fourth Cycle under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) process of the United Nations, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan had a meeting with Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

During the meeting, cooperation between Armenia and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights was touched upon. Both sides emphasized the importance of ensuring the continuity of this collaboration, particularly considering the expert capacities of the Office.

The Deputy Foreign Minister briefed the High Commissioner on the ongoing human rights reforms being implemented in Armenia.

Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan drew the attention of his counterpart to the recent developments in the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, emphasizing the importance of signing the agreement on peace and establishment of interstate relations between the two countries.

The Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of addressing humanitarian issues, in particular the need to reveal the fate of missing persons and to ensure the release of Armenian prisoners of war and civilian hostages illegally detained in Azerbaijan.
