Political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Peru

On February 16, in Lima, political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Peru took place. The consultations were held by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Paruyr Hovhannisyan and Ignacio Higueras Hare, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru.

Interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues on the development of bilateral relations. The importance of intensifying the Armenian-Peruvian political dialogue and expanding the legal framework, as well as developing inter-parliamentary, academic, and trade ties was emphasised. The parties highlighted the existing potential of bilateral relations in the economic, educational and cultural spheres and stressed the importance of its further deepening.

The cooperation within the framework of international organisations was touched upon.

Interlocutors exchanged views on urgent issues of regional and international agenda.

Paruyr Hovhannisyan briefed his Peruvian counterpart on Armenia's efforts,  including in cooperation with international partners, to address the needs and rights of more than 100,000 Armenians forcibly displaced as a result of the ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh.

During the meeting, the parties touched upon the process of normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations. The Armenian side presented the "Crossroads of Peace" project developed by the Government of the Republic of Armenia.

Within the framework of consultations, the Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a mechanism of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Peru was signed.

During the visit, the meeting of the Deputy Minister of Armenia and the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Peruvian Parliament took place.
