Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Luxembourg

On February 14, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan arrived on a working visit to Luxembourg. The meeting between Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan and Xavier Bettel, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg took place.

The interlocutors commended the strong political dialogue between the two countries, which is based on common values and interests. Minister Mirzoyan emphasized that the establishment of a diplomatic presence in Luxembourg - the resident office, reflects Armenia’s commitment to promoting partnership with Luxembourg in all areas of mutual interest.

Views were exchanged on the perspectives of cooperation between Armenia and Luxembourg both on bilateral and multilateral platforms. In this context, a number of issues on the Armenia-EU partnership and the possibilities of using the existing mechanisms to the maximum extent to develop a new ambitious agenda were touched upon. Among other issues, the Foreign Minister of Armenia emphasized the importance of launching the Armenia-EU Visa Liberalization dialogue.

The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Luxembourg also discussed regional security issues. Ararat Mirzoyan briefed his counterpart on the developments of the recent days, touching upon the incident of another provocation and use of force by the armed forces of Azerbaijan in the village of Nerkin Hand, Syunik region of Armenia, as a result of which the Armenian side had four victims. Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the efforts of Armenia to have a stable South Caucasus, attempts to destabilize the situation, and the need to restrain them with the engagement of international partners. In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia stressed the importance of the activities of the EU monitoring mission on the international border with Azerbaijan.

Touching upon the draft treaty on the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the main principles of territorial integrity and inviolability of borders, regarding which a clear and unequivocal mutual commitment is imperative for ensuring advancement in the process.
