Working visit of the Foreign Minister of Armenia to Georgia

On January 26, in Tbilisi, in the framework of the regular session of the intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation between Armenia and Georgia, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan and Ilia Darchiashvili, Minister of Foreign Minister Affairs of Georgia signed the “Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of Georgia on the performance of remunerated activities by family members of the personnel of the diplomatic missions and consular posts”.

In his speech at the intergovernmental commission, Minister Mirzoyan stated that during 2023 the consistent intensification and deepening of the political dialogue with Georgia was one of the key directions of Armenia's foreign policy: meetings of two Ministers and officials from the Ministries were held on different platforms, the regular political consultations between the foreign Ministries were held in Yerevan, activities were carried out by the embassies in both countries with the aim of raising the relations between two states to a strategic level, according to the agreement reached between the Prime Ministers of Armenia and Georgia in summer.

Ararat Mirzoyan noted that the process of delimitation of the interstate border between Armenia and Georgia is also on the agenda. As it was discussed before, it is suggested to activate the joint activities of the commissions, if necessary also by using international competent mechanisms, to completely settle the issue in a friendly atmosphere. Minister Mirzoyan indicated that the Armenian side has completed the necessary work of forming the commission and is ready to start the discussions in the shortest terms.

Minister Mirzoyan emphasized: “We value our relations with Georgia not only in the bilateral but also in the regional context, considering it one of the key components of regional stability, security and development. This intention of ours is also reflected in the “Crossroads of Peace'' initiative of the Government of the Republic of Armenia, aiming at jointly turning the South Caucasus into a region of intersection of all kinds of infrastructures, under the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, reciprocity and equality at its core. It is not a coincidence that the Prime Minister of Armenia presented the initiative of “Crossroads of Peace” to the international community for the first time in Georgia, within the framework of the Silk Road Forum in Tbilisi”.

Minister Mirzoyan also added that the cooperation in the fields of democratic reforms, rule of law, protection of human rights has an important role in relations with Georgia. The promotion of democratic values in the South Caucasus, including through close cooperation with the European Union, will contribute to the process of establishing lasting and solid peace in the region.
