Visit of joint delegation of European External Action Service and European Commission to Armenia

On November 27-29, a joint delegation of the European External Action Service and the European Commission for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations, Migration and Home Affairs, Research and Innovation, as well as International Partnership Directorates had a visit to Armenia. The mission was tasked to explore the possibilities of deepening and strengthening the multifaceted relations between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union.

During the visit, the members of the delegation held high-level meetings with the heads and representatives of different Ministries and bodies of the Government. The meetings were focused on four sectoral areas, namely: security and defense, justice and home affairs, economy, trade, financial and social issues, connectivity, including energy, transport, digitalization, research and innovation.

During the meetings, the parties discussed the steps aimed at ensuring progress in the implementation of the provisions of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, strengthening cooperation in the above mentioned directions, promoting the implementation of reforms, addressing the urgent needs of our compatriots forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh as well as increasing Armenia's social and economic resilience in the long term perspective.

Reference was made to the deepening of cooperation in the areas of migration and mobility and to the launch of the visa liberalization dialogue between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union. The importance of joint efforts aimed at  implementation of regional inclusive programs and establishment of long lasting stability was discussed. In this context, the Armenian Government’s "Crossroads of Peace" project was presented.

The EU reaffirmed its ongoing support for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

On November 29, the EU and Armenia inaugurated the EU-Armenia Investment Coordination Platform. During the first meeting of this new format of cooperation the agreements on projects to increase the energy efficiency of kindergartens in cooperation with the European Investment Bank and on support programs to small and medium-sized enterprises in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development were signed.

During the concluding meeting, the Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan and the members of the joint delegation of EEAS and European commission reiterated their commitment to further strengthening cooperation and elevating the level of partnership in favor of the Republic of Armenia-EU rapprochement and delivering tangible results for the citizens.
