The second round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Iraq

On November 22, the Second round of Armenian-Iraqi political consultations were held in Yerevan. The Armenian delegation was led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Vahan Kostanyan, the Iraqi delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq Mohammed Hussein Bahr AlUloom.

The interlocutors highly appreciated the level of the Armenian-Iraqi political dialogue, particularly in the context of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Iraq Abdul Latif Rashid to Armenia. The importance of high-level mutual visits and contacts was emphasized.

A wide range of issues of the Armenian-Iraqi bilateral agenda were discussed, in particular, the possibilities of developing cooperation between Armenia and Iraq in the trade, economic, educational, cultural, health, humanitarian and other spheres, as well as expanding the legal framework between the two countries.

The sides exchanged views on regional developments.

Deputy Minister Kostanyan briefed his counterpart on the challenges that emerged as a result of the ethnic cleansing of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, the efforts of the Armenian side towards achieving stability and peace in the South Caucasus and the vision of Armenia regarding the unblocking of regional communications. Deputy Minister Kostanyan referred to the "Crossroads of Peace" project and the opportunities it may provide for the Middle Eastern region.
