Meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs with the Vice-President of the European Commission

On November 15, in Brussels, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Margaritis Schinas, European Commission Vice-President for Promoting our European Way of Life.

A number of issues on the Armenia-EU partnership agenda were discussed. Satisfaction was expressed with the deepening of the dialogue in various fields, expressing willingness to contribute to its further expansion with new initiatives.

Welcoming the positive dynamics towards the launch of the visa liberalisation dialogue, Ararat Mirzoyan emphasised that the final decision in this direction will be in line with the deepening Armenia-EU cooperation and will play a significant role in stimulating people to people ties.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia and the Vice President of the European Commission discussed the existing and future possible cooperation with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), as well as issues of mutual interest in the field of security.

Both sides emphasised  Armenia's progress in a number of indexes related to the european way of life and stressed the importance of the EU's consistent support for ambitious reforms in the field of strengthening democratic institutions, the rule of law and the protection of human rights, implemented by Armenia.

The interlocutors also touched upon issues of regional stability. The Foreign Minister of Armenia  briefed on Armenia's vision of establishing long-term peace in the region, as well as the steps of the government of the Republic of Armenia aimed at addressing  the needs and rights of more than 100,000 Armenians forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, resulting from ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan.
