The newly-appointed Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Armenia, handed over a copy of his credentials to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia

On September 1, Paruyr Hovhannisyan, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia received Ambassador Vasilis Maragos, newly-appointed Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Armenia, on the occasion of handing over the copy of his credentials.

Deputy Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan extended congratulations to the Ambassador on assuming his duties, wishing him success during his tenure.

During the meeting, a number of issues on the multi-layered Armenia-EU agenda, EU’s support to the ambitious program of reforms aimed at the democratic development of Armenia, the activation of political dialogue, as well as the further enhancement and deepening of the cooperation agenda were touched upon.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia presented the security situation in the region and Armenia's efforts towards establishing peace. Views were exchanged on the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and the steps towards addressing the security issues and ensuring the rights of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. The need to unblock the Lachin Corridor, as well as to exclude the threat of use of force by Azerbaijan, was emphasized. In this context, the Armenian side highly appreciated EU’s mediation efforts and substantive steps aimed at stabilizing the situation, including the deployment of the EU Mission in Armenia.
