16 August, 2023

On August 16, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a telephone conversation with Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.

Ararat Mirzoyan briefed his counterpart on the violation of fundamental rights of 120.000 people of Nagorno-Karabakh and especially vulnerable groups and the unfolded extremely difficult conditions for them, including the acute shortage of food and medicine resulting from Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor. Minister emphasized that with its actions, Azerbaijan violates not only the provisions of the Trilateral Statement of November 9, 2020 and the norms of international humanitarian law, but also the binding Orders of February 22 and July 6 of the highest UN legal body, the International Court of Justice.

Minister Mirzoyan stressed the urgency of eliminating the humanitarian crisis, which is worsening in Nagorno-Karabakh by the hour, by restoring unimpeded movement in both directions through the Lachin corridor. Ararat Mirzoyan expressed confidence that the UN Security Council can take a decisive role in the context of preventing the humanitarian catastrophe in Nagorno-Karabakh.
