On May 24, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahe Gevorgyan, who was in New York on a working visit, had a meeting with Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

During the meeting, the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from the blockade of the Lachin corridor and the details of the ICRC's efforts were discussed.

The Deputy Minister touched upon Azerbaijan’s violations of international obligations, as well as international humanitarian law and human rights protection norms, including the illegal installation of a checkpoint in the Lachin corridor in gross violation of the UN International Court of Justice decision of February 22 on the provisional measures. In this context, he emphasized the importance of the need to ensure the active involvement of the ICRC and unhindered humanitarian access in order to address the humanitarian challenges in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Underscoring the urgent need for the immediate release and repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held under hostage in Azerbaijan, Vahe Gevoryan also commended the activity of the ICRC towards ensuring the implementation of the norms of international humanitarian law.
