On March 8, in Cairo within the framework of the Ministerial Session of the Council of the League of Arab States, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan met with Khalifa Shaheen Almarar, the Minister of State of the United Arab Emirates.

The two ministers touched upon the issues on the bilateral agenda and exchanged views on the prospects of broadening the cooperation in various fields. They commended the expanding trade and economic ties between the two countries, the efficiency of regular direct flights, and the opportunities for further development of tourism and implementation of investment projects.

Regional and international security issues were also discussed.

Touching upon the security situation in the South Caucasus, Ararat Mirzoyan stressed that the Azerbaijani side, with its continuous provocations and maximalist aspirations, challenges the efforts to establish peace and stability in the region.

Foreign Minister of Armenia briefed his counterpart on the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from the blockade of the Lachin corridor and underlined the need to unblock the corridor without preconditions. In this context, the implementation of the legally binding decision made by the International Court of Justice on February 22 regarding the request for provisional measures against Azerbaijan was underscored.

In the context of cooperation in international platforms, Minister Mirzoyan touched upon Azerbaijan's speculations of the religious factor, groundless attempts to hamper traditionally warm relations between Armenia and the Armenian people on one side and the Arab world on the other, considering such an unacceptable and expressing hope that in other international platforms the member states of the Arab League will oppose any further attempt to give a religious tone to exclusively political and humanitarian issues.
