Political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Armenia and the Italian Republic

On February 28, the Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Armenia and the Italian Republic held political consultations in Rome. The consultations were headed by Paruyr Hovhannisyan, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia, and by Edmondo Cirielli, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy.

During the consultations, the sides commended the high level political dialogue between the two countries and discussed a wide range of issues on the Armenian-Italian bilateral agenda. Touching upon the perspectives of economic cooperation, the sides expressed their willingness to undertake steps towards expanding the economic ties. The cooperation in the cultural, educational and scientific fields were also discussed.

The sides also touched upon the international and regional issues, including the expanded Armenia-EU partnership, discussed the possibilities of mutual support within the international organizations, and stressed the importance of holding regular political consultations.

Deputy Minister Hovhannisyan briefed upon the challenging security situation in the region and Armenia’s commitment and efforts to establish peace. The Deputy Minister mentioned the dire humanitarian consequences of the ongoing blockade of the Lachin corridor and highlighted the importance of the implementation of the relevant decision of the International Court of Justice.

During his visit to Rome, Paruyr Hovhannisyan also met with Gian Marco Centinaio, the Deputy Chairman of the Italian Senate and Giulio Tremonti, the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.
