Meeting of Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, with François Alfonsi, Member of the European Parliament, Co-founder of the Friendship Group with Artsakh

On February 23, Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, received the delegation headed by François Alfonsi, Member of the European Parliament, co-founder of the friendship group with Artsakh. 

During the meeting the sides touched upon the security situation in the South Caucasus region, the importance of the deployment of the EU Mission in Armenia, the need for an immediate release of the Armenian prisoners of war held in Azerbaijani captivity, as well as discussed the steps towards the preservation of the Armenian cultural heritage.

The Deputy Minister comprehensively presented the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh caused by the blockade of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan. With this regard, the importance of the Order of the International Court of Justice on applying provisional measures against Azerbaijan was underscored.

The parties touched upon a number of the Armenia-EU partnership agenda items, including the inter-parliamentary cooperation. Paruyr Hovhannisyan highly appreciated the principled position of the European Parliament on the issues of primary importance for the Armenian side, which was duly reflected in the relevant resolutions and reports.
