On 4 November, the delegation of Armenia headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Vahe Gevorgyan participated at the High-level international conference "Safety of Journalists: Protecting media to protect democracy", which was jointly organized by the Government of Austria, UNESCO and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The Conference was held to mark the 10th anniversary of the UN Plan of Action on Safety of Journalists and Issues of Impunity.

During the conference a number of states presented their commitments to the fields of free speech and protection of journalists.

In his speech, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs touched upon the security challenges faced by Armenia during the last two years, stressing that even in such conditions, media freedom was not restricted in Armenia, as evidenced by a number of prestigious international ratings reflecting the steady progress of our country.

Vahe Gevorgyan also touched upon the cases of deliberate targeting of journalists by Azerbaijan during the 44-day war, stressing that such conduct was also noted during the Azerbaijani aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia. The Deputy Foreign Minister reiterated Armenia's readiness to work towards elaboration of effective international mechanisms to uphold international humanitarian law and protect journalists in armed conflicts.
