Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan met with Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov.

On June 9, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov, who is on a working visit in Armenia. The tête-à-tête was followed by a meeting in an expanded format with the participation of the delegations. 

The agenda of the discussion between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Russia included a wide range of issues related to the further development of Armenian-Russian allied relations. 

Ararat Mirzoyan commended that since the establishment of diplomatic relations Armenian-Russian interstate relations have been raised to a qualitatively new level of allied cooperation during the passed 30 years, which is distinguished by the active dialogue between two sides at the highest and high levels, by the close cooperation within the framework of CSTO, EAEU, CIS and other international organizations. 

The sides touched upon regional and international security issues. The Foreign Minister of Armenia highlighted the key role of Russia in the cessation of fire and hostilities in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone. He stressed the key role of the effective work of Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh both in preventing provocations and in maintaining the peace for the people of Artsakh, as well as in strengthening the ceasefire regime in the conflict zone. In this context Ararat Mirzoyan expressed hope that the status-quo violated by Azerbaijan on March 24 adjacent to the village of Parukh in Nagorno-Karabakh within the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeeping forces will be restored. 

Ararat Mirzoyan also highly assessed the mediating efforts of Russia, including within the framework of OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship, aimed at the exclusively peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as the consistent work of Russia on the directions of delimitation and border security and unblocking of economic and transport communications in the region. 

During the meeting the interlocutors referred to the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey. 

The sides also discussed the prospects of strengthening cooperation in economy and trade, humanitarian and cultural spheres. 

Following the meeting, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Russia Ararat Mirzoyan and Sergey Lavrov held a joint press-conference. 

In the same day Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov accompanied by Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial and payed tribute to the memory of the victims of the Genocide.
