Political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Montenegro

On May 12, political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Montenegro were held in Podgorica, co-chaired by Tigran Samvelyan, Head of Department of Europe and Cedomir Fustic, Director General of the Directorate General for Bilateral Affairs and Economic and Cultural Diplomacy. Ashot Hovakimyan, Ambassador of Armenia to Montenegro (with residence in Prague), also participated at the consultations.

At the beginning of consultations the sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation Between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro.

The parties discussed the opportunities for deepening and strengthening bilateral relations, outlined concrete steps aimed at promoting economic ties and increasing the volume of trade turnover. The cooperation in international organizations, as well as the perspectives of expanding it was touched upon.

The Armenian side introduced Armenia’s approaches on establishing lasting peace in the region and highlighted the importance of the international community’s support in this regard. The parties underlined that the Nagorno Karabakh conflict should be resolved exclusively in a peaceful way within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship.

The Armenian delegation also had a meeting with Vladimir Vucinic, Director General for NATO and Security Policy of the MFA of Montenegro. Issues related to the regional security were discussed.

On the same day, the Armenian delegation met with Tamara Brajovic, Advisor to the President of Montenegro. The importance of the establishment of high-level political dialogue was underlined and wide range of issues related to deepening the interstate relations were touched upon.
