Political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Switzerland

On May 5, political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Armenia and the Swiss Confederation were held in Bern. The Armenian delegation was headed by Tigran Samvelyan, Head of the European Department of the Foreign Ministry, and the Swiss side was represented by Ambassador Anna Ifkovits Horner, Head of the Eurasia Division at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.

At the beginning of the meeting, the parties welcomed the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Switzerland.

The Armenian and Swiss delegations highly appreciated the close political dialogue between the two countries, the cooperation in the cultural and scientific-educational spheres, the people to people contacts and expressed readiness to take steps towards deepening them. The interlocutors commended the cooperation within the international organizations’ framework, and discussed issues of mutual assistance. The role of active friendship groups in the parliaments of Armenia and Switzerland in promoting bilateral relations was emphasized.

The importance of developing trade and economic ties was highlighted while both sides expressed readiness to take active steps to expand it. The sides referred to the continuous activities of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Armenia. The importance of the 2022-2025 Strategy, which envisages the implementation of ambitious programs in Armenia, was emphasized.

During the consultations, the Armenian side presented the need for a comprehensive solution to the humanitarian problems caused by the 44-day war, reiterating the key role of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship in the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, including in the status of Artsakh. Armenia's steps aimed at establishing peace and stability in the South Caucasus region were touched upon.
