Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received Special Envoy of Canada to Europe and the European Union Stéphane Dion

On February 25, the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received the Special Envoy of Canada to the European Union and Europe Stéphane Dion.

The interlocutors commended the high level of relations based on the solid friendship between the Armenian and Canadian peoples, expressing readiness to undertake practical steps to raise the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries to a qualitatively new level.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia presented to his interlocutor the agenda of the reforms implemented by the Government aimed at strengthening democracy, the rule of law, and protection of human rights.

Stéphane Dion noted that Armenia is moving towards the essential direction of democratic reforms and stressed that the primary goal of his mission is Canadian support to the democratic process in Armenia.

Ararat Mirzoyan stressed the importance of exchanging experience with the Canadian side in the modernization of the judiciary system, digitalization of public service, good governance and several other areas, expressing confidence that this cooperation will pave the way for strengthening cooperation between the two countries. The possibilities of capacity building of the National Assembly of Armenia and support to the civil society were also discussed.

The interlocutors underlined the crucial role of the Armenian community in Canada in the continuous strengthening of Armenian-Canadian relations.

Several issues on the regional agenda were also touched upon. Minister Mirzoyan presented the security challenges created around Armenia.
