Meeting of the Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan with the Deputy Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Andrius Mazuronis

On November 19, FM of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received the delegation led by the deputy speaker of the Republic of Lithuania Andrius Mazuronis.

Minister Mirzoyan presented in detail the recent aggression unleashed by the Azerbaijani armed forces on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, adding that Azerbaijan's destructive and expansionist policy, threats of use of force against Armenia's territorial integrity and sovereignty for months and the warmongering rhetoric of the top leadership of Azerbaijan, poses serious threat to regional security and stability. In this context, Ararat Mirzoyan especially stressed the importance of the targeted and appropriate response of the international community to prevent further provocations by the Azerbaijani side and to contribute to the de-escalation of the situation in the region.

The Deputy Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania reaffirmed the principled position of lithuanian side that the borders cannot be changed with the use of force or the threat of use of force.

The interlocutors stressed the importance of close cooperation based on traditional friendly relations between the two peoples and common democratic values. Andrius Mazuronis highly assessed the extraordinary elections in Armenia in June and the process of democratic reforms.

During the meeting, touching upon issues on the bilateral agenda, the sides commended the dynamic of high- level mutual visits and the development of Armenian-Lithuanian relations.

The FM of Armenia and Lithuanian Parliamentarians emphasized the importance of active cooperation between parliaments of the two countries, stressing the role of the friendship groups. The interlocutors discussed effective cooperation between Armenia and Lithuania within the framework of Armenia-EU partnership.

The need for a comprehensive and lasting settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the mandate of OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairmanship was also stressed.

Touching upon humanitarian issues requiring an urgent solution the sides stressed the importance of immediate repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war, hostages and other detainees held in Azerbaijan.
