On September 1, the Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan held a phone conversation with the Foreign Minister of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis on the initiative of the Lithuanian side. Minister Landsbergis congratulated Ararat Mirzoyan on assuming the position of the Foreign Minister of Armenia.

The interlocutors discussed a number of issues regarding the Armenian-Lithuanian bilateral relations. Both sides commended the positive dynamics in the relations between Armenia and Lithuania. The Ministers also expressed readiness to further deepen the existing multifaceted cooperation.

The sides exchanged views on the reforms carried out within the framework of the Armenia-EU cooperation and the assistance provided by Lithuania to Armenia. Ararat Mirzoyan expressed his gratitude to Lithuania for the support provided in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ararat Mirzoyan and Gabrielius Landsbergis stressed the need for the immediate repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and captured civilians held in Azerbaijan.

The interlocutors touched upon the regional security issues, including the situation resulting from the infiltration of the Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of Armenia since May 12, as well as the ways to overcome it.

Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized that Armenia is ready to achieve lasting peace in the region, but Azerbaijan's actions jeopardize efforts towards the de-escalation of the situation and undermine regional security and stability.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia also strongly condemned the provocative actions of the Azerbaijani side in the direction of the Armenian positions located in Yeraskh, as a result of which an Armenian soldier was fatally wounded.
