Political consultations between Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Slovenia

On May 19th, political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Slovenia were held in remote format. The Armenian delegation was led by Tigran Samvelian, the Head of European Department. The delegation of Slovenia was headed by Jernej Müller, the Director-General at the Directorate for Common Foreign and Security Policy.

During the consultations, the interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues on the Armenian-Slovenian bilateral agenda, touching upon, in particular, the prospects of cooperation and mutual support within international organizations and the steps towards strengthening and expanding the bilateral economic relations. The EaP summit, which is to be held in the second half of this year under the EU Council chairmanship of Slovenia, was also discussed. Within the scope of humanitarian assistance to Armenia, the parties dwelled on the social programs, which are carried out by the Slovenian "Enhancing Human Security" (ITF) foundation.

During the consultations the sides exchanged views with regard to the issues of mutual interest high on the international agenda. The parties presented their stands also on the regional issues.

The Slovenian side’s attention was invited to the issues of the post-war Nagorno-Karabakh settlement and of humanitarian assistance to Artsakh. The situation in the cross-border regions of Armenia following the provocative actions carried out by the Azerbaijani armed forces in the sovereign territory of Armenia, was under the special focus of the parties. Within this context, the key role of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship in the conflict settlement and, specifically, in the final status of Artsakh, was underlined. The particular attention was drawn to the issues of PoW and humanitarian response that are of urgent address.
