Мeeting of the Deputy Foreign Minister with the heads of diplomatic representations accredited in Armenia

17 May, 2021

On May 17, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Artak Apitonian held a meeting with the heads of diplomatic representations accredited in Armenia.

Artak Apitonian presented in detail the current situation resulting from the incursion of the Azerbaijani armed units to the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia -  the provinces of Syunik and Gegharkunik, as well as the steps to resolve it.

The Deputy Foreign Minister underscored that these provocative actions represent the continuation of the aggressive rhetoric of the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan towards Armenia, combined with the military exercises launched in Azerbaijan on May 16, which are being held without prior notice in violation of the requirements of the 2011 Vienna Document.

Artak Apitonian noted that such grave violations of international law by Azerbaijan pose a serious threat to regional peace and security. In this context Armenia expects an appropriate response from the international community. "The Republic of Armenia reserves the right to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty in accordance with the UN Charter," the Deputy Foreign Minister added.
