Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ara Aivazian met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov

On May 6, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Ara Aivazian held a meeting with Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov, who is on a working visit to Armenia. The meeting started with a tete-a-tete talk, and then continued in an expanded format with the participation of the delegations.

Welcoming his counterpart, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia commended the active political dialogue with ally Russia and the solid legal framework regulating all spheres of cooperation, stressed the interest of the Armenian side in promoting bilateral relations through cooperative mechanisms such as the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, the Inter-Parliamentary Commission, the Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation.

Touching upon the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Ara Aivazian emphasized the importance of creating conditions for the resumption of the peace process under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs, represented by Russia, France and the US. As an urgent issues, the Acting Foreign Minister of Armenia underlined the ensuring of the return of all prisoners of war, captured civilians, the creation of basic conditions for the return of displaced persons, the provision of humanitarian assistance to the population, the restoration of Artsakh's economy, as well as the issue of preserving the historical-cultural heritage fallen under control of the armed forces of Azerbaijan.

After the meeting, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ara Aivazian and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov signed a Memorandum of Understanding on ensuring biological security between the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation.

The meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Russia was followed by the joint press conference.

During the visit, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov, accompanied by Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ara Aivazian, visited the Memorial complex of the Armenian Genocide and paid tribute to the memory of the Holy Martyrs.

The Foreign Minister of Russia also visited "Victory Park" and laid flowers at the monument of eternal flame dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War.
