On April 15, Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian received Toivo Klaar, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia and the delegation headed by him.

The interlocutors touched upon a wide range of issues on regional security and stability. Minister Aivazian presented to the EU Special Representative Klaar the steps undertaken to address the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh, highlighting the direct involvement of international partners.

In the context of the implementation of the provisions of the November 9 trilateral Statement and urgent humanitarian issues, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia drew the attention of the EU Special Representative to Azerbaijan's failure to fulfill its obligations, continuing to hold Armenian prisoners of war and civilians in captivity.

Both sides emphasized the importance of protecting the religious and cultural heritage in the conflict zone, including through appropriate international participation.

Minister Aivazian stressed that the Armenophobic policy supported by the high leadership of Azerbaijan, which is expressed in targeting the Armenian Christian  heritage and "exhibitions" held in terms of glorifying the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan, is a direct challenge to  international efforts towards ensuring peace and stability in the region.

The EU Special Representative Klaar briefed the Foreign Minister of Armenia on his impressions of the visit to the bordering regions of Armenia and meetings within its framework. Sides mutually stressed the importance of fully protecting the rights of the population of border areas.
