Video call between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Sweden

On December 22, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ara Aivazian held a video call with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Ann Linde. The Foreign Minister of Sweden congratulated Minister Aivazian on assuming his position and wished him success in his responsible mission.

The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Sweden commended the high dynamics of the political dialogue, emphasizing the mutual readiness to promote cooperation in all areas of mutual interest within bilateral and multilateral formats, including in the framework of the EU Eastern Partnership. As priorities were highlighted the following spheres: democratic consolidation, protection of human rights and the rule of law.

Foreign Minister Aivazian congratulated his Swedish counterpart on assuming the OSCE Chairmanship in 2021.

In the context of the issues of regional security and stability, Minister Aivazian touched upon the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression against the people of Artsakh, which was accompanied by gross and massive human rights violations and war crimes. The interlocutors exchanged views on the establishment of a ceasefire and deployment of peacekeepers in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone achieved by the joint statement of November 9, as well as the process of its implementation.

Both sides emphasized the addressing of issues of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs. In this context, Minister Aivazian stressed the priority of restoring and protecting the rights of the Armenians of Artsakh, including through the establishment of the status of Artsakh on the basis of the right of the people of Artsakh to self-determination.

Minister Aivazian also briefed on the humanitarian situation in Artsakh, emphasizing the involvement of relevant international organizations in overcoming it.
