Meeting at the Foreign Ministry on the process of nationalization of the UN Sustainable Development Goals

On March 5, Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan received Shombi Sharp, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Armenia and the heads of UN specialized agencies. Deputy Ministers and representatives of the agencies concerned who were involved in the process of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Republic of Armenia.

In the course of the meeting, the participants discussed issues related to UN SDGs’ nationalization, implementation and bringing them in compliance with the Reforms Program of the Government of Armenia. The representatives of UN specialized agencies and Armenian agencies concerned exchanged views on the progress made in their areas of competence, existing gaps and challenges.

The sides underscored the importance of holding such meetings in terms of summarizing  already taken steps and clarifying further actions. In this context, Foreign Minister of Armenia highlighted the establishment of a coordinating body for the implementation of the SDG programs and informed that discussions on the draft project of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia on the establishment of the SDG Council entered the final stage.
