Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia chaired the 36th Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie

On October 30 and 31, the 36th Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie chaired by Foreign MInister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, took place in Monaco. The conference was attended by Foreign Ministers and heads of delegation from the OIF member states.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, Foreign Minister of Armenia, Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary General of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie and Serge Telle, Minister of State of Monaco, delivered the opening remarks.

Welcoming the participants of the conference, Minister Mnatsakanyan presented the process of implementation of the obligations, undertaken by Heads of State and Government of La Francophonie during Yerevan Summit and the initiatives taken by the Armenian Presidency.

On this occasion, Minister Mnatsakanyan emphasized strengthening of economic ties in French speaking countries, promotion of digital agenda and advancement of Innovation and New technologies as the priorities of the Armenia’s presidency.

Minister Mnatsakanyan noted that due to importance we attach to these fields, the presentation of draft resolution is a decisive step for the full realization of digital potential in Francophone space and for coming up with new ideas.

“Our interest relating to these issues have already been reflected on the results of Yerevan Summit and within the framework of the adopted Declaration.

The Republic of Armenia has announced at the national level that Information Technology is a strategic sphere, and consistent efforts are being made to promote the spheres of Innovation and High Technologies.

We are convinced that promotion of innovation and New technologies in the French- speaking world is one of the main priorities that we face.”

Foreign Minister added that among other initiatives, Armenia will contribute to the organization of the Francophone Economic Forum and regional economic integration processes.

Armenia’s Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan attached importance to the close cooperation with the international organization of La Francophonie, as well as the active involvement of international and regional organizations in the implementation of the above mentioned initiatives.

Armenia’s Foreign Minister reaffirmed Armenia’s assessment in connection with the environmental theme presented at the conference for discussion by the authorities of Monaco, expressing confidence that it will strengthen the already adopted position of the organization on the fight against climate change, as well as our efforts directed to the protection of environment and promotion of biodiversity.

As a result of the two-day Ministerial Conference, the participants adopted four resolutions- on Oceans, on the role of innovation in the development of Science, Education and the Digital Economy, on the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and on the 50th anniversary of the International Organization of the Francophonie.

At the end of the Session, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, President of the Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia passed the presidency of the 37th Ministerial Conference of la Francophonie to Tunisia in solemn ceremony.
