On the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Turkmenistan

On October 9, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, ahead of the session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)  in Ashgabat, met Rashid Meredov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. 

Foreign Ministers congratulated each other on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkmenistan, reciprocally commending the bilateral meeting within the framework of the conference as a step towards the strengthening of the centuries-old relations of the two peoples.

Expressing his gratitude for the warm reception, Minister Mnatsakanyan noted: “Relations between Armenia and Turkmenistan have a strong basis and deep historical roots and we develop them with great responsibility. We have different platforms of cooperation, the dialogue between our countries continues at the level of the Heads of State.” Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Turkmenistan noted with satisfaction periodic high-level reciprocal visits and political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs. 

The sides touched upon the CIS activities and a number of issues on its agenda.

Foreign Ministers discussed a broad range of issues on the bilateral agenda. They emphasized the joint steps towards promoting commercial and economic ties, implementation of cooperation projects and enhancement of business and cultural contacts. In the above mentioned process the importance of the Armenian Community in Turkmenistan was emphasized. Both Ministers noted with satisfaction that Armenian and Turkmen historical cultural heritage and monuments  in the territory of both states are protected with care.

The interlocutors exchanged views on preparatory work for the session of the intergovernmental committee on economic cooperation and expressed hope that it will deepen the cooperation in the fields of mutual interest.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Rashid Meredov highly appreciated reciprocally beneficial cooperation and support between the two states in the framework of the international bodies. 

In the course of the meeting, the sides touched upon a number of urgent issues on international and regional agenda.
