Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan's meeting with representatives of the Georgian-Armenian community

24 July, 2019

On July 24, Minister Mnatsakanyan met with representatives of the Armenian community in the "Hayartun" center of the Armenian Diocese in Georgia.

Expressing gratitude for warm reception Minister Mnatsakanyan summarized the meetings held on the first day of the visit, reiterating Armenia's readiness to further strengthen the centuries old brotherly relations with Georgia.

In his remarks, the Minister noted that although Armenia and Georgia have various issues in the region, the two countries are united by the common interest: creating an environment conducive to regional peace and security agenda as well as to the welfare of the people.

Foreign Minister of Armenia highly valued the bridging role of the Georgian-Armenian community in strengthening friendship between the two countries, two peoples and in advancing bilateral agenda.

“It is immensely important that you, as citizens of Georgia, participants of Georgia's social life, participants of Georgia's well-being and development, are also the protectors of your roots and your identity. You are also an important bridge between our two peoples and states, contributing to deepening and strengthening of the bilateral relations. We all know that as a community we face many challenges.

But in my opinion, the peculiarity of our communities and, in particular, this community, is that it's not just a group of people that get together a few times a year for a cup of coffee, but the capacity of Armenian community is expressed through its institutional organization. We have different ways of expressing our identity in institutional terms."

Touching upon the foreign policy priorities of Armenia, Foreign Minister addressed number of regional issues and presented Armenia's approaches and principled position regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

During the meeting, Minister Mnatsakanyan answered numerous questions of the representatives of the Armenian community of Georgia and exchanged views on the issues of the Georgian-Armenian community’s concern.

Prior to the meeting with the Armenian community of Georgia, the Foreign Minister of Armenia visited the Ejmiatsin Church in Tbilisi.
