Reception at the Embassy of Armenia to the United States in honor of Ararat Mirzoyan, President of the National Assembly of Armenia

On July 15 the Embassy of Armenia to the United States hosted a reception in honor of Mr. Ararat Mirzoyan, President of the National Assembly of Armenia, who is in Washington DC with a parliamentary delegation to participate in the House Democracy Partnership (HDP) Leadership Forum.

Ambassador Varuzhan Nersesyan introduced Ararat Mirzoyan and members of his delegation to the members of the Armenian community of greater Washington and spoke about the agenda of his visit and Mr. Mirzoyan’s bilateral meetings with U.S. counterparts. He stressed the importance of enhancing partnership with the HDP, a bipartisan commission of the U.S. House of Representatives that works directly with partner countries to support the development of effective, independent, and responsive legislative institutions, as a unique forum for strengthening interparliamentary ties between Armenia and the United States. Prior to this forum, a bipartisan HDP commission delegation traveled to Armenia in April.

Ararat Mirzoyan spoke about Armenia’s priorities in enhancing bilateral cooperation between the legislatures of Armenia and the United States, as well as briefed the gathered on the recent political, economic and electoral reforms undertaken by the Armenian government, prioritizing the steps towards implementing major reforms in the judiciary system. Following the official part of the event, the community members had the opportunity to interact with the members of the delegation and ask questions on various aspects of life in Armenia after the Velvet revolution.
