Meeting of Ambassador Armen Papikyan with the head of Austria-Armenia friendship group Gudrun Kugler

On February 18, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Austria Armen Papikyan had a meeting in the Parliament of Austria with Mmag. Dr. Gudrun Kugler, the head of the Austria-Armenia parliamentary friendship group.

Ambassador of Armenia talked about the development of parliamentary ties with Austria, and in this context highlighted the importance of intensive contacts between the friendship groups functioning in the parliaments of both countries, as well as exchange of best practices between the parliaments, having in mind the experience of Austria in the area of parliamentary system of governance. Ambassador Papikyan also noted that Armenia highly appreciates the position of the Austrian Parliament with regards the Armenian Genocide. Ambassador of Armenia touched upon the democratic developments in Armenia and the course of ongoing reforms.

The interlocutors touched also upon the high level of relations between Armenia and Austria, as well as Armenia and the European Union. In this context Ambassador Papikyan highlighted the importance of completing the process of ratification of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement as soon as possible.

Gudrun Kugler assured that once the Armenia-Austria friendship group in the Armenian Parliament is formed, the Austrian side is ready to have active contacts with Armenian colleagues with the aim of discussing further steps and promoting parliamentary cooperation. She also touched upon the format of cooperation between the parliaments of both countries, underscored the importance of intensive contacts and meetings between parliamentary groups, as well as organisation of mutual visits.
