Meeting of Permanent Representative of Armenia to OSCE with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media

On February 7, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia to the OSCE, Ambassador Armen Papikyan had a courtesy meeting with the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Harlem Désir.

During the meeting the interlocutors discussed the wide range of issues related to freedom of media in the OSCE area. They stressed the necessity of comprehensive implementation of the OSCE commitments related to human rights and fundamental freedoms, and in particular, freedom of the media. In this context the importance of the decision on safety of journalists, adopted by the OSCE Ministerial Council in Milan in December last year, was highlighted.

During the meeting the interlocutors touched upon the freedom of expression in Armenia and the continuous steps taken by the Armenian Government in this regard. In this context they stressed the importance of cooperation between Armenia and the OSCE at all levels, including through active engagement of journalists and civil society.

The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia reconfirmed Armenia’s steadfast support to the mandate and activity of the Office of the Representative on Freedom of the Media aimed at protection of freedom of media in the whole OSCE area.
