On October 19, acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan received the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Armenia (residence in Moscow) Woo Yoon-keun.

Welcoming the guest, acting Foreign Minister expressed the gratitude of the Armenian government to the government of Korea for the continuous support with regards various important to Armenia issues.

Acting Minister Mnatsakanyan reiterated the commitment of the Armenian authorities to undertaking practical steps towards deepening and further expanding the cooperation with the Republic of Korea in different fields. The interlocutors highlighted the trade and economic, agricultural and tourism fields as main directions of cooperation. In this regard, a special reference was made to the steps that are being undertaken towards establishing a cooperation between Eurasian Economic Union and Republic of Korea.

Touching upon the ongoing domestic political developments in the country, acting Minister Mnatsakanyan underscored that the Armenian government has proved through its actions its commitment to fighting corruption, strengthening the judiciary, which constitute the main guarantees for ensuring equality in social and economic spheres. Acting Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of initiating projects aimed at exchanging experience in the fields of high technologies and innovation, which are considered the priority direction of the government development agenda. In this regard, both sides stressed their readiness to pay special attention in their bilateral agenda to the education, and particularly, the creative education.   

The interlocutors exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues and ways to solve them, making special reference to the latest developments on the Korean Peninsula and the efforts towards the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Both sides emphasized the necessity of exclusively peaceful settlement of the conflicts within the framework of internationally recognized formats.

At the end of the meeting Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Woo Yoon-keun signed the “Agreement on Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the Government of the Republic of Korea”, expressing their conviction that this quite important document would serve as an additional impetus in the practical development of bilateral cooperation.
