Meeting between representatives of Government and the civil society on Armenia-European Union agenda issues

On October 2, a discussion between the representatives of the Armenian government and the civil society organizations (CSOs) took place at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the aim of touching upon the process of drafting the road map for the implementation of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), as well as to present to the Armenian civil society the agenda issues on the eve of the EaP Ministerial Meeting to be held on October 15, in Luxembourg.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Mher Grigoryan, Deputy Foreign Minister Garen Nazarian, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments Mane Adamyan, Deputy Minister of Justice Vigen Kocharyan, First Deputy Minister of Nature Protection Irina Ghaplanyan, the representative of the Ministry of Energy Infrastructure and Natural Resources, heads and members of around five dozen Armenian CSOs. Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan chaired the meeting.

In his opening remarks, Minister Mnatsakanyan emphasized that the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement is quite an extensive document, which applies to virtually all aspects of public life. In this context, the Foreign Minister underlined the importance of the dialogue with civil society in the process of implementation of the Agreement, adding that civil society is an immediate participant in the process.

At the meeting, the importance of establishing of a Civil society platform, which will monitor the implementation of the Agreement, was highlighted. The Platform shall operate on the basis of principles of transparency, inclusion and rotation.

The participants agreed to continue the dialogue in this format.
