Foreign Minister of Armenia met with CoE Secretary General

On September 27,  the Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who is participating in the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York, met with Thorbjørn Jagland, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

The interlocutors highly appreciated the effective cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe, discussed a number of issues related to Armenia's engagement in the CoE.

The Armenian Foreign Minister and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe touched upon the possibilities of addressing a number of challenges that the organization is facing, and the efforts made in that regard.

Foreign Minister touched upon the recent internal developments in Armenia, the priorities of the programme of the new Government, including human rights protection, strengthening of democracy and fight against corruption.

The head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry briefed his vis-à-vis on the position and the priorities of the Armenian side with regards the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and in terms of advancing the process of negotiations highlighted the importance of creating an environment conducive to peace, strict adherence to the ceasefire and refraining from aggressive rhetoric.
