Foreign Minister met with his Indian counterpart

On September 26, in New York, within the framework of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan had a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj.

The interlocutors agreed that in the millennia old, based on mutual respect and trust Armenian-Indian relations there is a great potential for presenting more ambitious projects and shifting mutually beneficial cooperation to a more practical field. In this regard, the Foreign Ministers underscored the essential role of regular high-level visits and holding of regular consultations between the Foreign Ministries. In terms of advancing the bilateral agenda both sides highlighted the importance of the activities of the Armenian-Indian intergovernmental commission.

Minister Mnatsakanyan underlined the commitment of the Armenian government to continue on the basis of the mandate given by the people the process of reforms aimed at strengthening justice, the rule of law, human rights protection, providing equal opportunities in social and economic spheres, and fight against corruption.

Presenting Armenia's development agenda and its achievements and experience in the field of high technologies and innovation, Minister Mnatsakanyan added that creative education has an important share in terms of promotion of that agenda. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia expressed his gratitude to his colleague for the consistent support provided by the Government of India for programmes directed towards developing the field of information technologies.

The interlocutors commended the sustainable cooperation within the framework of international organizations and the mutual support in various international platforms.

Heads of the Armenian and Indian Foreign Ministries exchanged views on a number of regional issues and the approaches to the ways of their settlement. In this context, the sides agreed that there is no alternative to an exclusively peaceful settlement of conflicts.
