Foreign Minister of Armenia met with the OSCE Secretary General

On September 4, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, Foreign Minister of Armenia, received Thomas Greminger, Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

Welcoming the guest, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan noted, that Armenia attaches particular importance to OSCE as an important regional platform and the cooperation with the Organization in different fields plays a significant role in Armenia’s foreign policy agenda. The Minister emphasized readiness of the Armenian side to continue active cooperation with the OSCE within the framework of the Armenia Cooperation Programme.    

During the meeting the sides exchanged views on the cooperation programmes between the OSCE Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.

Presenting recent internal political developments in Armenia, Minister Mnatsakanyan noted that the priority of the new government is to continue reforms, based on the mandate given by people, which are aimed at strengthening the rule of law, creating equal opportunities in judicial, economic and social fields, as well as fighting corruption.    

Among the government priorities Minister Mnatsakanyan paid particular attention to the development agenda, one of the main pillars of which is innovation, including in creative education, industry, agriculture and other fields.

Within regards the preparations for holding snap elections Zohrab Mnatsakanyan highlighted the importance of active and effective cooperation with international partners in order to properly organize the electoral process.

Foreign Minister Mnatsakanyan and the OSCE Secretary General Greminger discussed the recent developments around the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process. Both sides underlined the importance of the exclusively peaceful settlement of the conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship, which is the only format that enjoys the mandate of the international community. In this context, Minister underscored that in the negotiation process the status and security of Artsakh are the priorities for the Armenian side. The Minister emphasized the importance of the establishment of an environment conducive to peace for the advancement of the peace process. In this regard Foreign Minister prioritized the unequivocal implementation of former agreements, halting of violations of ceasefire regime and war mongering.
